New Delhi, May, 2025 – In a significant move to ease the financial burden on consumers, the Indian government has announced the revised prices for LPG cylinders, effective from May 1, 2025. As per the new pricing structure, commercial LPG cylinders have seen a notable price reduction, offering much-needed relief to businesses and consumers who rely on gas for cooking and heating.
Price Reduction for Commercial LPG Cylinders
In the capital city of New Delhi, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by ₹14.50, now priced at ₹1,747.50, down from the previous rate of ₹1,762. Similarly, other major cities have witnessed a drop in LPG cylinder prices. In Mumbai, the 19kg cylinder is now priced at ₹1,700, a decrease from ₹1,715.50, while in Kolkata, the new price is ₹1,840.50, compared to the previous ₹1,859.
For domestic consumers, the 14.2-kilogram cooking gas cylinders have also seen new prices. In Delhi, the rate is ₹853, while in Kolkata it stands at ₹879, in Mumbai at ₹852.50, and in Chennai at ₹868.
Subsidy for Below Poverty Line (BPL) Consumers
In Rajasthan, the LPG cylinder price is ₹806.50, with additional benefits for economically disadvantaged sections of the population. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a subsidy of ₹450 is being directly transferred to the accounts of eligible beneficiaries, who are below the poverty line. This initiative aims to provide clean cooking fuel to households that need it the most.
The Ujjwala Yojana, launched by the central government, offers free LPG connections to eligible households, and currently, the government provides a subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder for up to 12 cylinders per year to support low-income families.
Reasons Behind the LPG Price Reduction
The reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices is primarily attributed to the decline in international crude oil prices. In recent days, the price of crude oil has seen a drop, positively affecting Indian consumers. Additionally, changes in the value of the rupee against the dollar, as well as fluctuations in transport costs and tax rates, have also influenced the pricing of LPG cylinders.
How to Check the Latest LPG Cylinder Prices
Consumers can easily check the latest LPG cylinder prices for their respective cities by sending an SMS with their registered mobile number to 771895555. Alternatively, if the registered mobile number is unavailable, users can download the mobile app of their gas provider, select their city, and view the updated prices.
Impact of Price Reduction on the Commercial Sector
The decline in commercial LPG prices is expected to have a positive impact on the business sector, especially for restaurants, hotels, and other establishments that rely on gas for cooking. With lower gas prices, these businesses will experience reduced operational costs. Furthermore, this reduction will benefit everyday consumers by indirectly influencing the cost of goods and services in the market.
Potential for Future Price Cuts in Domestic LPG Cylinders
There is also speculation that domestic LPG cylinder prices could see a reduction in the future, depending on the stability of the international oil market and potential changes in government policies. Experts suggest that the government may consider lowering domestic gas prices next month, especially if global oil prices remain stable.
