How much subsidy will be given in Makhana farming?

Government of Bihar is providing subsidy from seed to storage to encourage farmers to grow Makhana. In this, farmers are being given 75 percent subsidy for the production of seeds of improved varieties of butter like (Golden Vaidehi and Sabur Makhana-1). Its expenditure department has fixed Rs.97 thousand on which this grant will be given. At the same time, the government will give 75 percent subsidy for the expansion of new area (farm system) for Makhana cultivation. The cost has also been fixed at 97 thousand taka. Out of which 75 percent grant will be given to the beneficiary farmers.

Apart from this, the government will also give subsidy to the farmers who want to build storage houses for food. Government will provide 75 percent subsidy on estimated cost of Rs.10 lakh for Makhana Storehouse (05 MT). Under the seed distribution programme, farmers will also be given 75 per cent subsidy on Makhana seeds at Tk 5400 per hectare.

Farmers of all these districts will be given the benefit of this scheme

Government has selected some districts for Makhana Development Scheme 2023-24. Only the farmers of this district will be given the benefit of this scheme. These districts include Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supal, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga and Khagria districts. Farmers of this district can apply online to avail the benefits of this scheme. The scheme will be facilitated for a minimum of 0.25 acres (0.1 hectare) and a maximum of 10 acres (4 hectare).

Documents required for application

To get the benefits of Makhana Bikash Yojana, it is mandatory for the farmer to update the land ownership certificate from last three years and receipt of revenue for last one year / agreement for current financial year. Farmers can download the agreement format from the online departmental portal. 16 percent Schedule Caste and 1 percent Schedule Tribe farmers will be benefited under the scheme. 30 percent participation of women in farmer elections will be ensured every year.
