At the India Mobile Congress 2023, Reliance Jio launched its satellite-based gigabit internet service in India called SpaceFiber. This service aims to connect remote areas of India with internet services. These are areas where it was almost impossible to connect internet service. But it took some time for Reliance to launch this service and a lot of work has been done on it. Besides, many experts are comparing this service with the SpaceX Starlink of Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. In such a situation let’s know various information related to it.
Jio has partnered with SES to provide gigabit internet
To facilitate the launch of SpaceFiber, Jio has partnered with SES to gain access to the world’s latest Medium Earth Orbit (MEO). It is believed to be the only MEO that can offer fiber-like services from the gigabit space. This is especially true for Jio when it gets access to SES’s O3b and O3b mPOWER satellites. However, this partnership only started in 2022. In 2022, Jio announced a joint venture with SES called Jio Space Technology Limited to provide affordable broadband services in India via satellite.
The first company in the world to do so
According to many media reports, it is the first company in the world to not only operate satellites in two orbits, but also successfully use them commercially. It has launched more than 70 satellites into two different orbits. Internet facilities are being provided to billions of users of the world through these orbits.
Jio Fiber will fulfill this demand
Jio claims that “the four most remote locations in India were initially selected to demonstrate the power of SpaceFiber. These locations include Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam.” The service will be rolled out across India. However, more information about this is yet to come Jio also said the service will operate with “high capacity for mobile backhaul” and will be available in remote areas of the country. Jio will improve the availability and scale of True5G in 2022 To launch the service, Jio had to get approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in terms of implementing broadband from space technology. They got the same approval in September 2022.
How is Jio SpaceFiber different from Jio Fiber and AirFiber?
Unlike JioFiber, SpaceFiber technology is wireless and does not involve a fixed-line broadband connection to your home. In this technology, the connection is made directly with the satellite. Whereas in Jio Fiber, a fiber setup also includes setup of router, wiring and other devices. Whereas AirFiber is a fixed wireless access system, which is mostly wireless but requires customers to install an outdoor unit on the roof, terrace or outside of their home.
