The government will provide foreign apple seedlings worth Rs 800 to gardeners at Rs 200


The government will make available to horticulturists apple seedlings of foreign varieties, which were available for Rs 800 to Rs 1000, at just Rs 200. The horticulture department will provide quality disease-free seedlings to gardeners from December.

Very good news for the horticulturists of Himachal Pradesh. The government will give seedlings of foreign apple varieties worth Rs 800 to Rs 1000 to orchard owners for just Rs 200. The horticulture department will provide quality disease-free seedlings to gardeners from December. To review the project gardening The Minister organized a meeting of officials of Nursery Management Society of Horticulture Department. The horticulture department is working on a project to increase the number of trees of foreign varieties, including those from America and Italy, in its nurseries established in the state.

Disease free plants will be given at very low cost

The seedlings of American and Italian varieties prepared in the nursery of the Department of Horticulture will be supplied to the gardeners in December this year. A review meeting will be held with the officials so that the orchard owners can get better quality and disease free root stock. The plant which is imported from abroad for Rs.800 will be supplied by the government for Rs.200.

The new plantation has a potential yield of 15 to 18 MT per hectare.

The department has developed disease free nurseries for root stock. In addition to 15 hectares of land, the number of trees is being increased in the agriculture department’s farms at Dhurla and Dattanagar in Choupal. The department has developed a demonstration garden. Horticulture University visited the gardens of Horticulture Department. Also, seedlings grown here have been found disease free.

University authorities have expressed the possibility of almost doubling the yield from these trees by testing the samples using HDP technology. At present the yield per hectare is 7 to 8 metric tons. The new plantation has a potential yield of 15 to 18 MT per hectare.
